dear yuletide writer 2020!

Here are some things I specifically love: comedy, metafiction, bodyswapping/sharing, time travel/loops, snark & banter, pastiche, historical/scientific research, framing stories/narrative layers, dreams-as-plot-device, casefic/mysteries, dramatic irony, clever AUs, mind control & possession, expanded worldbuilding, outsider POV, multimedia/experimental formats, competence porn, identity hijinks, pining, creative crossovers & fusions.
I’m very down for porn but preferably as part of something at least resembling a plot!
Here are my Two For One crossover requests and my Worldbuilding requests.
And now let's get into it...
The Museum of Jurassic Technology
Characters: Any
I did an explainer on the Fandom Promo Post, but the short version is that the MJT is a place in Los Angeles created by MacArthur award-winning artist and writer David Wilson. It's not so much a museum as a story in the form of a museum—or rather, multiple stories.
If you've been so lucky as to visit the museum in the pre-plague era, you'll know how magical it is to walk into a space that seems like it belongs to another world entirely. Fiction and nonfiction blend together with no indication of any boundary between them. The miniatures of the trailer park exhibit exist in perfect harmony with the holographs of the Medieval Bestiary chapel, and the evocative, jangling soundscapes of the Kircher rooms.
Here are some prompts, but you would be my hero if you wrote me literally anything based on or inspired by the MJT!
- An AU where Geoffrey Sonnabend and Madalena Delani were able to meet—how would that have changed things for them? Or even just a Madalena Lives AU where she is able to read Sonnabend's writings.
- Any kind of crossover between exhibits would be wonderful: what if Athanasius Kircher discovered a magical cats-cradle technique that gave him a glimpse into the center of the earth? What if Hagop Sandaldjian's microminiatures had to be spoken to, a la the Telling Of The Bees?
- I'd also adore any sort of in-universe academia written by Valentine Worth, whether that's as framing device for the main story or some kind of catalog description of a "lost exhibit" of the museum.
Taskmaster RPF
Characters: Alex Horne, Greg Davies
These boys are fucking ridiculous. I wrote an article about them which got passed around a bit, to the degree which I'm like 90% sure Alex and Greg have read it at this point, which, good for them. The article will probably give you a good idea of what about them gets me going.
I'm not really into super-formalized BDSM with these two, more into wild mind games where Alex sets things up so Greg can give him what he needs.... a.k.a. the show, lmao.
- I'd love to read something about Greg getting slowly trained into being Alex's master without even realizing what's going on until he's like, dick out and about to dive in. Cue retrospective flashback to all those times Alex subtly influenced him into dominance...
- AUs please!
- Because I am the way that I am, I'd love an Age Of Sail AU with Captain Greg and his loyal steward Alex who's actually the reason anything gets done on the ship.
- Or what about a Frankenstein AU? Either one can be the monster, but I'm fond of mad scientist Alex and his terrifying, hulking creation who can only be tamed by the performance of strange tasks.
- I'm very down for James to be thrown into the mix, however you choose. The combination of James's clear jealousy of Greg's attention to Alex and Greg's on-camera disciplining of James is incredibly potent.
Oh Hello
Characters: Gil Faizon, George St. Geegland
Copying last year's request here because my desires and needs have remained constant....
- Period-piece porn - 60s, 70s, 80s! They were on so many drugs!!!!
- Don’t particularly want to read extensive present-day fucking but am down for a certain amount of current-day sexytimes within the scope of a larger story (e.g. a 5+1 or Through The Ages)
- Showbiz shenanigans with Ravi, Too Much Tuna guests, etc in the context of them doing the play circa 2017. Would love some celebrity encounters, Ravi trying to save face as Gil & George do something awful and embarrassing.
- Gil and George go genre! Whether this means putting them on a spaceship, having one of them time travel Desmond-style, giving them daemons or magic powers, I don’t care— but I’d love to see how changing their setting changes them as characters, or, as is vastly more likely, literally doesn’t at all.
- Dubcon. Dubcon dubcon dubcon! I don't want straight-ahead darkfic—throw a couple jokes in there, at least—but you can get a little fucked up with it. Keeping it as close tonally to the show itself would be ideal, I mean canon itself does get pretty dark at times so really there’s a lot to play with there!
Aubrey-Maturin Series
Characters: Jack Aubrey, Stephen Maturin
2020 has been my Big Boat Year. It started with The Terror and has since devolved into a whirlwind of 19th-century Royal Navy madness. My descent into the Aubreyad was absolutely inevitable and I'm happy to say it's going GREAT so far. As of this writing I'm on book 6 but I'm devouring them at a steady pace of one every three weeks or so, so do with that as you will.
I'm equally down for shipfic or gen with these two. If you go for shipfic I'd prefer angsting over infidelity to not play a major role.
Here are some ideas:
- The unseen Botany Bay/New Holland interlude between books 5 and 6! Wombat collecting! Fun in the sun!
- Always down for hurt/comfort, sickfic, etc. I'm a big fan of the scenario in which one of them thinks the other is dead, nearly attempts suicide by bravery in response, and then SURPRISE! They're not dead! Joyous reunion!
- In Stephen's explorations on Desolation Island he comes across a curious lichen... cue sex pollen, the effects of which of course he tries to snuff out with his laudanum, to no avail... but here comes Jack...!
- CROSSOVERS PLS.
- JS&MN: Do Jack and Stephen have different opinions on the usefulness of magic during wartime? Do they fall on opposite sides of the Strange/Norrell debate? Is Stephen absolutely stunned when Jack shows a surprise affinity for magic? Et cetera!
- The Terror: I would, of course, swoon over anything that puts Stephen Maturin and Harry Goodsir in the same room—or even keeping it epistolary! Stephen would be in his seventies around the time of the Franklin Expedition, and surely he's one of Goodsir's naturalist idols.
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell
Characters: Any
I'd read this book back in high school and enjoyed it well enough, but this year I finally got around to watching the series and followed it up with a reread and now I'm really in it, oh boy oh boy oh boy.
- I'm dying for some worldbuilding fic that goes deep describing the history of magic from the end of canon onwards.
- Like I'm not kidding if you just write me like some kid's English Magic GCSE paper circa 1995 that they didn't even get a good grade on because they included some strange original research/highly controversial fringe opinions on the nature of Faerie, I would be absolutely thrilled.
- Given that one can make the assumption that the book Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell exists itself inside its own world... what would a review of the inevitable television adaptation look like in said world? Or even better, a review of the 2015 remake of the classic 1960s adaptation of said book?
- More concepts I'm just tossing out there: A ridiculous puff piece from a contemporary pop-magic magazine, an archived BBS humanities.magic.norrellite discussion, a job listing for a magician-at-large for a big corporation or government initiative.
- There's a funny bit in the book where Napoleon's failed efforts to find magicians in France is described. I am really curious to know what the state of magic is like elsewhere in the world during or after the events of canon. How is Boston doing? St. Petersburg? Do the convicts at Botany Bay develop their own ramshackle systems of magic once new arrivals bring word of the English Revival?
- So like... what if when Norrell and Strange finally break out of the Darkness, it's.... the 21st century? Basically just give me the two of them being all fish-out-of-water in modern England and having to deal with, well, everything, up to and including their own lasting legacies.
- Childermass/Segundus is very near and dear to my heart:
- I would love them stuck together in some sort of confined situation post-canon (they're on... a boat... going to America? For reasons? Sure!) where they have to awkwardly navigate around their own lust until finally it all explosively breaks down.
- More bratty Segundus! He can be a little bitch, as a treat!
- Childermass being taken aback by Segundus's dirty mind/mouth, please.
- Crossovers!!!!
- Good Omens: Angels and demons are canon in the world of JS&MN, so please, please, show me what happens when Mr. Norrell attempts to buy a book of magic from A.Z. Fell's bookshop in London.
- The Terror: A little less than 30 years after the return of magic, the Franklin Expedition departs for the Northwest Passage. Do they have a magician aboard? If so, who is it? And how does that change things for them? Seeing as Strange was the Army's man, has the Navy stuck stubbornly by Norrellite principles in the years since the Restoration? Alternatively I would love anything that involved Sophia and/or Lady Jane using magic of their own to take an even more active role in a rescue attempt.
Characters: Any
This series is so cute and lovely and delightfully strange! I remember first seeing Worthikids' stuff back in Homestuck fandom and that spirit of inventiveness has definitely carried through to his original work.
I'd love to read stories that keep the absurdist vibe of canon, while expanding on the characters and plot.
- Billie/Frances, please! Just two hot goth chicks in rival food trucks, having a FORBIDDEN AFFAIR!
- The Steve & Cesare lore hinted at by the series & soundtrack is absolutely bonkers. Some overly serious Lovecraft pastiche obliquely explaining it would be fantastic.
- Casefic! Weird customers, odd burger recipes, saving the city from strange creatures due to the power of fried food???
